Growing Good Food - Naturally
About Our Organic Eggs
Our Egg Mobiles
Our hens are
grazed in the pasture following our dairy cattle. In nature fowl (birds) always
follow herbivores (like cattle) as they rotational graze across the prairies.
By following the cows with the chickens, we gain a lot of the benefits of this
natural relationship. The cows shorten the grass which makes it easier for the
chickens to find all the insects and bugs that are living in the grass, and by
eating these insects the chickens sanitize the pasture from the insects that
will be harmful to cattle the next time they come back to graze. It's almost
like they were created to work together. The chickens are locked in
at night to protect them from predators and are let go at day break and are
allowed to roam the pasture freely. The chickens are housed in these egg
mobiles from spring-fall and are housed in the barn for winter so they do not
freeze outside, but access to outside on nice sunny days. They are fed
only certified organic grain.
